An exquisite Antique Mourning pendant dating from the late Georgian era, Circa 1800. The piece features a lovely locket in the centre with two locks of knotted brown hair which have been well preserved behind a secure glass window.
Mourning jewellery in the Georgian Era sometimes contained a lock of hair as a souvenir to remember a loved one so that a piece of them was always kept close to the wearer.
The pendant is fashioned in Sterling Silver and decorated with twinkling Paste Stones around the central window and across the bow shaped bale.
It is a fascinating piece of history and though it has developed some wear along the back of the piece over the years it is in good condition for its age.
